Internal Medicine

Your first point of contact for all medical concerns: our dedicated, interdisciplinary team offers you 60-minute consultations. An appointment is possible within 48 hours without a referral.

Your first point of contact for everything

Our approach to general internal medicine means that we see you as a whole person and not just a single organ. We believe that real help begins with listening. That is why you receive a 60-minute consultation with us, in which we genuinely have time to understand your story, make sense of your symptoms and develop a clear plan for your wellbeing together with you. Our interdisciplinary team is your steady point of reference for all health questions, from acute complaints to long-term care for chronic conditions. We are here for you and accompany you on your path. You need no referral for this and usually receive an appointment with us in Zürich within 48 hours.

What general internal medicine covers

Internal medicine is the broadest field of adult medicine. It deals with the body's organ systems, from the cardiovascular system through the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and metabolism to the immune system. In practice this means you can come to us with almost any health question and we find out together what lies behind it.

Typical reasons are persistent tiredness, fever, cough, abdominal pain, headaches, dizziness, palpitations, changes in weight or simply the feeling that something is not right. Even if you only want a second opinion or wish to understand a finding from elsewhere, you are in the right place with us.

As internists we think in terms of connections. One symptom can have many causes, and several complaints are often related. This is exactly what general internal medicine is for, so that someone keeps the bigger picture in view rather than looking at each organ in isolation.

We accompany you acutely, when something new arises, and long-term, when you have a chronic condition. Over time this builds a picture of you that makes every individual assessment more precise.

How an assessment with us works

It begins with the conversation. We take 60 minutes so that you can describe your complaints at ease and we can ask targeted questions. Your history, your medications, your daily life and your worries all belong to this, because they give us the most important clues.

This is followed by the physical examination. Depending on the question, we supplement it with blood tests, an ECG, a urine test or further tests that we carry out directly in the practice. We explain each step to you and why we are doing it.

Once the results are in, we discuss them with you in clear and honest terms. You should understand what we have found, what it means and what options you have. The further plan grows out of this shared understanding.

Sometimes additional imaging or the assessment of a specialist is needed. In that case we arrange the referral, coordinate the appointments and bring the findings back together with us, so that you do not lose track between different places.

Care for chronic conditions

Many internal conditions run their course over years. High blood pressure, diabetes, raised blood lipids, thyroid disorders or chronic gastrointestinal complaints need reliable, continuous care rather than a single intervention. This is precisely one of our core tasks.

We set up your treatment together with you, regularly check how you respond to it and adjust it when something changes. In doing so we make sure your medications fit together and that the therapy fits your life, not the other way around.

Because you have a steady point of reference with us, we do not have to go over your story from scratch every time. That saves time, avoids duplicate examinations and makes it easier to recognise early warning signs.

Prevention is part of this for us. We talk with you about risks, about sensible examinations for your age and about what you can do yourself. The aim is for you to stay healthy and not only come when things are already serious.

Coordinating your treatment

Especially when several specialists are involved in your health, it is easy to lose track. Findings sit in different places, recommendations contradict one another, and in the end no one knows any more who decided what. This is where our role as a coordinating point of contact comes into play.

We bring the threads together. If you need a cardiologist, a gastroenterologist or another specialist, we arrange the referral and make sure the results come back to us. That way one place remains that knows the overall picture and makes the decisions with you.

The same applies to your medications. We keep an eye on what you receive from which source and check whether everything works together sensibly. Unnecessary or contradictory prescriptions can be avoided this way.

For you this means less effort and more security. You do not have to mediate between practices yourself or carry findings back and forth. We take on this work so that you can focus on your health.
